MSNBC'S ED SCHULTZ URGES YOU TO ATTEND THE OCTOBER 2ND, 2010 MARCH ON WASHINGTON

This post first appeared on Hullabaloo.

"It’s not a sexy as Glenn Beck and his Black Robed Regiment of Christian Reconstructionists (just don’t call them Mullahs …) but this rally scheduled for next month in DC is just a teensy bit more relevant to our current problems. It’s called One America, Working Together.

Here’s the agenda:

Provide immediate relief for those who are currently unemployed

* Extend jobless benefits, COBRA, mortgage assistance, and other initiatives for those currently out of work.
* Target help for populations and communities in the greatest need

Provide immediate action to stimulate job growth and consumer demand

* Provide aid to states and cities – including direct job creation at local levels – especially in education, health care, social services and first-responder workforces
* Increase the ability of small businesses to obtain loans
* Fund infrastructure investment that spurs economic growth and clean energy enterprises

Provide a fair chance for everyone to succeed and advance in the workplace

* Everyone who works in America should have the right to join with their co-workers to have a voice on the job
* Pay all workers wages that allow them to support their families
* Increase and index the minimum wage
* Close all pay gaps
* End all forms of workplace discrimination
* Protect, honor, fully apply, and expand"

MY BELOVED DENMARK, AND HOW DO WE CATCH UP WITH THE DANES?

I’m ecstatic, last night David Brancaccio was a guest on the Rachel Maddow show. And guess what? … In talking with Rachel about our infrastructure, he spoke about my beloved Denmark.

If you’ve been keeping up with the posts on this blog, you know I have a love for Denmark. I love the Danes. I embrace their core values and their innovative spirit; and I often wish the United States had their kind of government.

On March 17th of this year, I posted a piece called "
AMERICANS SOLD A BILL OF BULL". I wanted to let Americans know that they are deluded, and they don’t have a clue how much previous administrations [and perhaps this administration] have kept them in the dark.

Our government has also, in collusion with our corporations, and the rich, and the powerful, … perpetrated a fraud. And yet, we still live in denial about our free enterprise system.

Several days ago, I wrote a small piece called "
Capitalism 201 Gone Wild" Fosters Inequality". I talked about our economic system, and my ideal economic system. Denmark comes pretty close to my ideal system.
-
It is an economic system where good familial and community relationships are highly valued. When you get some time, read the piece.

Update: "The Social Democrats led a string of coalition governments for most of the second half of the last century in a country generally known for its liberal traditions. This pattern was upset in November 2001 when a centre-right coalition promising tighter immigration controls came to power following a snap election called by the then Social Democrat Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen in an attempt to capitalise on his rising popularity in the wake of the 11 September attacks on the US." In 2007, Rasmussen was re-elected - boasting to tighten immigration and boost the economy. We'll wait to see how this change in direction will affect the social fabric of Denmark.

REPUBLICAN STRATEGY TO DERAIL STIMULUS PACKAGE AND FIRE UP THEIR BASE

-
Ok readers ... our group has set forth a strategy. We're not going to let you know what it is right now; but, we'll let you know if it works.
-
Did you notice that the Cato Institute [a conservative think tank], fueled by right-wing Republicans and some conservative groups, has a big spread this morning talking about more tax cuts being the way to improve the economy and they're running tons of ads trying to convince you they are right. Well, in case you don't remember, Republican economic policy (which included tax cuts) along with Republican foreign policy and lack of regulation and oversight has driven us into this mess. Remember? That's why you voted for change.
-
That said, tax policy that allows for tax credits and tax incentives [not tax cuts] for businesses is much healthier.
-
Now, if you combine massive infrastructure spending with tax credits and tax incentives for businesses, we're headed in the right direction.
-
Let's see if our government does the right thing. Hey people, government is us ... speak up!

Dear President Obama,

Please invite GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt to the White House and listen to his vision for America and especially the corporations in America. On “Morning Joe”, Monday, January 19th, I listened to Mr. Immelt talk about “clean energy” and the years ahead being about innovation, technology and productivity. He focused on infrastructure, technology and health care.

I agree totally with him. This thinking that America was going to be about services … see where that got us.

This is a new era and age. I love to call it the Age of Obama.

Seize the opportunity to change America and thus “change the world”.

Love to you and your family
