Black Girls Rock

I'm over 60 years of age, and I thought I'd seen alot; but (a few days ago) when I witnessed a room full of Black (so called) men allow a white man to disrespect two sisters without any repercussions, ... I was through. Did you hear what I said? ... I was through ...

First, I don't dislike men, ... but what in God's name has happened to Black men?  Our voting rights are being rolled back, women's rights (and that includes a "sister's" rights) rolled back, unemployment sky-high in Black communities, poverty rates climbing in Black communities, Black men continuing to be incarcerated in unprecedented numbers,  ... and what do (far too many) Black men do? .... Many do nothing; and some of them do worse than nothing (if that's possible).  ... Yep, ... they do the "Uncle Tom" or "Stepin Fetchit".  Yes sa, Mr. White man, ... go ahead and disparage, disenfranchise, and spit on my mother, my grandmother, my sister, and my aunt.

So why should I be surprised when I see a room full of Black males allow an arrogant, "full of his own self-importance",  Caucasian male,  disrespect two good sisters and a lot more before that?   Why? .. because I'm a sister, ... and what I witnessed made me nauseous, and shocked the hell out of me.  I can't help it, but I really do expect so much more from Black men than what I've seen.

Sisters have been fighting the good fight since before slavery, ... Strong Black sisters, who despite all the racism, unspeakable horrors, and disrespect they've had to endure through the centuries by (too many) Black males and (far too many) white males, ... still rock on. ...

They still rock in their community, ... They still rock going to school, and work, and then church on Sunday, ... raising and feeding their family (and sometimes other folks children) ... They rock on.

A couple of weeks ago, I watched a show called "Black Girls Rock" on BET.   Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross (co-star of "Reed Between the Lines") and Regina King (co-star of "Southland") , it was an awesome celebration of Black women, and dedication and tribute to Black women who have  amazing accomplishments.  If you can, catch it in reruns.

Award recipients:

Grammy award winning legendary gospel singer, Shirley Caesar

Civil rights activist, writer, professor and scholar, Angela Davis

Everyone of you ... Keep Rocking!

THE GOP AGENDA TO DISENFRANCHISE AND SUBJUGATE AFRICAN AMERICANS

How does the GOP (and it's predominately white conservative membership) plan to disenfranchise and limit African Americans' (and even Hispanics) rise (or access) to prosperity and power?

They do what they've always done.

Any organization where African Americans have ownership or power or where African Americans (do well for themselves) in large numbers, the GOP seeks to crush and/or deny that organization or entity. (*)
-
[Remember .. the GOP now has a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, a majority in the Ohio Senate/Ohio House, and they've gained important political positions (governor, attorney general, secretary of state, judicial, etc.) throughout the United States]
-
Here's how:
-
Crush (and demonize) ACORN (which they did with the help of all but 75 House Democrats); ... Crush the Unions, Public Education, (so called) Big Government; Crush President Obama , lie (and create a climate of unreasonable fear and promotion of negative stereotypes) to get back in or stay in power, and *redistrict.

The next step ... don't hire minorities in political positions (see Ohio's Conservative agenda section below), ... and set in place a libertarian agenda which allows businesses (especially banks) to discriminate in serving and hiring.

With African Americans denied loans to start or maintain a business, and businesses legally allowed to discriminate in hiring and serving African Americans, (and the Unions busted) ... the majority of African Americans will have little place to go - except as non union domestic workers (or low wage health care workers, etc), to prison (after all, according to many conservatives, most Blacks are criminals and that's where they belong) or the military.
-
[And don't forget the GOP's desire to repeal the 14th Amendment] The GOP plan is to [in effect] return to the good ole days of slavery. That's why the Tea Party constantly talk about the "founding fathers". This kind of thinking, and the (founding father's focus on acquisition of property), fits right in with corporate America (corporate globalization) and the GOP's plans to dominate the world (and not in a good way). Ex: WATCH

The GOP also has an obsession with voter id laws that impact voting access for seniors and minorities.

Update 8/9/2012 .. Politics Nation on Voter Suppression:

What about African American women? ... With no job (or fewer high wage jobs), ... not being able to pay for higher education, ... no or little health insurance and/or health care [if the GOP succeeds in repealing health insurance reform], ... no full reproductive services ... that means more African Americans in poverty and/or prison or in the military to help keep corporate America and the GOP (white conservatives) happy, prosperous, wealthy, and in power.

The prisons of course would become increasingly more privately owned and the inmates would be increasingly used for cheap labor. [See also section on prisons]

Unfortunately, poor and a great many middle class white women (including conservative white women) - won't be able to afford college, or receive specialized career or job training because of the GOP's agenda to demolish BIG GOVERNMENT and repeal that health insurance reform act [that makes it possible for low cost college funding], and the GOP's desire to get rid of PELL grants (see also **) and public safety nets; add to that the GOP's much too cozy relationship with Big Business ... you are looking at the demise of the Middle Class. Furthermore, with no access to full reproductive services or good health care ... and with steadily eroding rights, [please research the number of Republicans against women's rights in the workplace, etc] these women will find themselves working at low wages (since the GOP is against a minimum wage), and totally subjugated to men. The Republican men will always point to some women who have some degree of power ... but some of these powerful women would simply be (conservative) paid Madams who essentially "keep the girls in line" and pregnant, even if a 13 year old girl is pregnant because she was coerced to have sex with an adult (after all, you need white conservative males to take or hold the reigns of power).

CLEVELAND SECRET CLUB MEMBERS AND FRIENDS - IT'S DECISION TIME

Hey Members and Dear Friends,

Our friends and members are growing nationwide and we are even being recognized on a more global scale.

We've come to a crossroad and you're going to have to make a decision.

For the past year we have been focused on making our African American communities, and the larger community, healthier, safer and prosperous. We changed the balance of power in Congress, the Senate and the White House. We now need to keep pressuring Congress/Senate and the White House to do what is best for the African American community and the larger community.

What we will not do, is sacrifice the health and safety of our communities for monetary greed and corruption. That is why we have fully embraced a commitment to a "GREEN" economy, health care reform, and to financial reform (so we never again have a total economic melt-down).

Now there are special interest groups and lobbyists that are sending huge amounts of money to Congress and the Senate to stop reform legislation or to negatively influence legislation that would make quality, affordable, comprehensive health care available to every American.

There are outright lies being disseminated. For instance: Lie: If Congress passes this healthcare bill, it will get rid of Medicare and old people will lose their insurance.

Think Progress reports that lies about health care reform are not going to go away anytime soon.

In an interview with The New York Times, conservative pollster Frank Luntz admitted that he would continue raising the false specter of a ”Washington takeover” of health care—whether or not that was Obama’s actual proposal. “I’m not a policy person. I’m a language person,” Luntz said.

Click
here for a detailed look at the blueprint for the propaganda campaign against health care reform.
Read: Here Come the Big Lies About Health Care Reform

We will boycott and we urge you to stop doing business with any business or individual or group that is trying to negatively influence or stop us from moving forward with quality, affordable, comprehensive health care for every American, and a "GREEN" economy.

-------------
Our next project will focus on increasing the number of African American women (and women of color) in media.

We have, for the first time, an African American First Lady (Michelle Obama). We thought there would an immediate change in broadcast media, and that we would be seeing more African American women (and women of color) and especially attractive African American women in positive roles. It hasn't happened. For instance, if you watch the cable channel USA, you will notice that there are hardly any African American women, none in leading roles. In terms of featured or leading television roles in broadcast media, with the exception of Jada Pinkett Smith in "Hawthorne" (on TNT), and a few black sitcoms, there are very few African American women.
-
-
WHAT IF NURSE HAWTHORNE WERE WHITE AND NURSE JACKIE BLACK
BLACK AMERICANS IN LOVE
-
With the exceptions of broadcast media founded by Ted Turner (CNN, TBS, TNT), African American women are under-represented or absent altogether. The following scenario is what is prevalent: white female, white male or white male, white female, black male. These are the Hollywood formulas/models.

We want to change that formula; therefore, we will join with groups who want to change that model to include African American women and women of color. We will single out every network and every business that is advertising on a network or television show where there are no women of color or where women of color are under-represented.

We need you to get the word out and be critiquing to see what networks or television shows are under-representing women of color, and who the advertisers are. Ask your friends and family to critique these networks and television shows. In order to change the formula, we need to seriously stop the flow of money to these television networks. Money talks.

Once these networks, television shows and advertisers are identified, we will focus on boycotting these entities. You, of course, don't have to wait. You can do it on your own. Simply refuse to watch the television show or channel or refuse to buy the advertiser's product.

So you've got to make a decision.

1. If you want things to remain the same with rising health care costs, rising health insurance premiums, unequal access to health care and denial of health care, do nothing.

2. If you want to keep on seeing the same old Hollywood formula where women of color are under-represented or absent altogether, do nothing.

3. If you want things to change, then you have to change your behavior. Refuse to do business with a company who puts their interests (profits) first above your health and safety ... refuse to buy their product or use their service ... refuse to watch a television program or television station that has no positive roles for African American women or no positive leading roles for attractive African American women ... support movies and television shows that depict African American women in positive roles ... email or call your representative and voice your opinion on legislation ... use your vote to elect people who will do what you want (esp. on major legislation) ... don't vote for them again if they fail to do what they said they would do (the reason why you voted for them)

Thanks guys. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

A Week of Health Care Reform Discussions, Governor Rick Perry, Citizen's Rights, and Racial Tug of War

Week in Review:
-
It's been an interesting, yet frustrating week for those of us who were watching the news and following the debates and discussions about health care reform, and then having to shift to discussions about race and police treatment of African American males and discussions about the pent up emotions and tensions that fester between the African American community and the police.

PRESIDENT OBAMA SPEAKS TO THE MUSLIM PEOPLE AND TO AMERICANS

Dear President Obama,

As you know, I am one of your most vocal/and written supporters and one of your most vocal/and written critics; however, I am very proud of, and thankful for, your leadership.

Today was a day I was most proud. At times, I think, that when I criticize something you've done or have not done that you or your staff may feel I am a non-Christian; however, I am a Christian, and for that reason, whenever, I think our people are intolerant, racist, greedy, unethical, and have done heinous and egregious things; I feel I must speak out.

I am a defender of those who cannot speak for themselves or where the most powerful have drowned them out or stripped them (or tried to strip them) of their rights and liberty.

I'm for the average American, whether they be Jew, Muslim or Gentile, male or female, young or old, sick or healthy, brown/yellow/black/or white. That's why I'm a Progressive.

When I see injustice or people speaking with impunity or not being held accountable for unspeakable crimes, I will be most vocal.

I loved when you spoke of human and women's rights and the right for women to choose. The key word, choice.

The protection of a woman's right to choose must be upheld and those who seek to prevent it here in America, punished.

A clear message must be sent to fringe groups ... that violence against people who are defenders of a woman's right to choose will not be tolerated and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

A clear message must be sent to those who hate and seek to do harm to other Americans will not be tolerated.

Your speech was not just to the Muslim world, but it was also meant for Americans. There will be some Americans who won’t get that.

I applaud everything you said and tried to convey to the Middle Eastern people, and what you wanted all of us to strive for ... to be a respectful, ethical, loving, peaceful people. I am thankful for your leadership.

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY: A PARTY ENGAGED IN TREASONOUS BEHAVIOR OR JUST A PARTY OF "NO IDEAS", RADICALS AND INSTIGATORS?

-
The REPUBLICAN PARTY is still the Party of "NO"; the Party of CHENEY; the Party of RUSH; the Party of PALIN; the Party of BACHMANN; the Party of Rick Perry; and now the Party of "TEA", and where it has sunk (where it began with Nixon), the right-wing Party of Racists, radicals and dangerous people.

I could name a lot more "racist" or “dementedright-wing Republicans, but I don't want to spend my entire afternoon on Wikipedia and "Fixed" News (that's right, I said "Fixed"). I was going to name Bill O'Reilly ... but I really don't need him or his goons showing up at my door.

The Republican Party (whose current leadership is almost largely right-wing) was just about buried after the 2008 election.* What was never buried was the racist, hate-filled, conspiracy driven Republican playbook that was documented in Robert Parry’s February 25, 2009 article, “The GOP’s Anti-Obama Propaganda” (which I posted here on March 1, 2009)

Now racist people are in both the Republican and Democratic Party; however, one need only look at the Party membership to see that the Republican Party lacks diversity and inclusion. That kind of representation was ever prominent during the 2008 Republican campaign and convention.

After the election of President Obama, gun and ammunition sales exploded, and “hate-groups” went from 602 in year 2000 to 926 in 2008.**

Though the number of Republican Party members has dwindled, let us not take that group for granted.

Let’s fast forward to the “Tea Parties” and observe the context of those rallies. Very few if any people of color were at the “Tea Parties”.

There were radical, irrational rantings and signs about “socialism” [code for welfare] and President Obama’s citizenship [code for Muslim terrorist].

Since the President fulfilled his campaign promise to lower taxes for 95% of Americans, the Tea Party idea was always extremely suspect; and we need only look at the people pushing these “Tea parties” to see that it comes from the conservative right-wing who always vote Republican.

Further, we saw racist depictions of President Obama (on the Republican side) both before and after the election.

Rick Perry and other "so-called" prominent Texans want to secede from the United States which is absurd; and unlike “Armadillo Joe” who thinks we should let Texas secede; do we really want a bunch of radicals to go unchecked within our own borders? http://broadwaycarl.blogspot.com/2009/04/racism.html

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY PROPAGANDA MACHINE ROLLS ON

President Obama has been in office just 15 days and right-wing and Main Stream Media and the Republican Party are already trying to re-label the Bush/Republican policies and Bush/Republican debacles as “Obama’s _”.
-
I just heard reference to Afghanistan being “Obama’s Vietnam”. Guys, Obama didn’t create any of this mess. He was just sworn into office 15 days ago … He’s been handed this mess; and the American people voted for a Democrat to fix the mess.
-
And why does it appear that Mainstream Media is giving more air time to Republicans and appearing to agree with their views by not challenging the veracity of Republican statements?
-
The Republican Party, the people who created this mess, now want to tell you that what the President is doing to try to fix this mess is better handled by them (again, the creators of the mess).
-
Unfortunately, Mainstream Media who seems to have been brainwashed into believing Republicans know best … yeah, the very media who weren’t minding the store, when the economy started to crumble and then “blew up”, are now trying to take your mind off of “their failings” and make everything Obama’s fault. Unbelievable!
-
So what do we have at the moment? It’s looking more and more like a Mainstream Media/Republican conspiracy. Ok, ... maybe not an out an out conspiracy, but this just doesn't smell right.
-

Next discussion:
David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan…….. the David Duke who mainstream media never reported racist statements coming from him regarding the appointments of Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor and then Secretary of State or Ms. Rice’s predecessor Colin Powell …. suddenly Duke's upset with the Republican Party because the RNC elected an African American chairman?. Look the Republican Party has always had some African Americans in their Party. Did David Duke abandon the Party? No! Who’s fooling who?
-
Before the election of Michael Steele, I emailed House Republicans and Senate Republicans (see previous posts) and asked them this question: "Why are racists and malcontents attracted to the Republican Party? "-
Not wanting that label (even though it’s true), they go (kicking and screaming) and elect Michael Steele.
-
We believe some Republican Party leaders went to the “Almighty Supreme Republican Racist” Duke and asked him to say something to make it appear that the Republican Party has changed so much that the racists are suddenly not attracted to the party anymore because of the election of Michael Steele. What makes this whole thing seem contrived … is that Duke called Steele a racist. Clever guys, but how stupid do you think we are?

RNC ELECT AFRICAN AMERICAN, MICHAEL STEELE, WHILE STILL REACHING OUT TO RACISTS AND MALCONTENTS

The other day, I sent an email to Boehner or some Republican House member and asked "Why is it that racists and malcontents are attracted to your Party?"
Well, it must have scared the hell out of them ... cause, guess what?
-
The Republican Party elected African American Michael Steele [moderate Republican, proponent of "drill baby drill" and high deductibles for health insurance] as RNC chair; however, by virtue of their love for Rush Limbaugh, we believe, at this time, they are using Mr. Steele as a smoke screen for their Republican agenda.
-
Now I'm not going to take all the credit, because what really scared them was the election of an African American male by the name of Barack Husein Obama; who is part Caucasian, part African Muslim, Christian, great family man, has lived in Hawaii and South East Asia, etc. This could have only happened in the Democratic Party.
-
WOW! That must have really shook the "core" of the Republican Party.
-
Didn't shake Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly.
-
This week several Republicans rebuked Rush Limbaugh for remarks made to President Obama, saying he "wished Obama would fail"; however, one of those Republicans apologized to Rush and admitted he agreed with Rush.
-
We are in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, with thousands of people losing their homes and millions out of work, and Rush, who some consider a leader in the Republican Party; wishes that President Obama would fail. Never would have heard that from a Democrat [kiss of death]; however, the Republican Party like some of their elitist "Wall Street" corporate buddies are an arrogant bunch.
-
Ok, readers, here's more news ....I'm so excited, cause it makes my point [didn't know it was going to be that easy] ...
-
According to Wikipedia:
-
"Steele then entered the Georgetown University Law Center and in 1991, he received his Juris Doctor degree. He worked as a corporate securities associate at the Washington, D.C. office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. From 1991 to 1997, Steele specialized in financial investments for Wall Street underwriters, working at Cleary’s Tokyo, Japan office focusing on major product liability litigation and at its London office on corporate matters. Steele left the law firm and founded the Steele Group, a business and legal consulting firm..."
-
Does that not make my point about Republican buddies, or what? A defender of big business and "Wall Street". [Umm]
-
Now back to Rush Limbaugh and his loyal followers.
-
May 6, 2008, Rush called Latino Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa "A Shoeshine Guy"
-
Rush attracts racists and malcontents and they seem to flock to the Republican Party.
-
According to Professor Ekwueme Michael Thelwell ... after the Voting Rights Act of 1965, [that outlawed discriminatory voting practices that had been responsible for the widespread disenfranchisement of African Americans in the United States], the racist Southern Dixiecrats flocked to the Republican Party.
-
"To our distress, what happened was the Dixiecrats, the racists, the segregationists simply migrated wholesale into the Republican Party and since that time, there have only been two Democratic presidents, and both of them from the South. You know, so that the law of unintended consequences, we won a victory by which the whole country suffered, as a consequence of the taking over of the Republican Party by these really renegade, undemocratic, reactionary, backward elements from the Southern Dixiecrats. And they have run the Republican Party ever since."
Amy Goodwin Interview, Aug 2005
-
-
Republicans tend to attract in smaller numbers ... upper class African Americans and Asians; and some Hispanic Catholics who may have abandoned the Party in this past election. But a large majority of Republicans come from the South [that includes Evangelicals] and Mountain West; and, they embrace elitist members of the financial community, the management of large corporations, [esp. those who are anti-union] and certain segments of the small business community.
-
Republicans have a vested interest in keeping corporate taxes low because those are their very largest contributors. In the last 48 - 72 hours of the Presidential election, there were huge donations made from the above named groups.
-
-
I've never known a racist (you know, the ones who violently hate minority groups and Jewish people) to join the Democratic Party [probably because Democrats have a large number of African Americans, Jewish people, and members of the Hispanic Community].
-

Democrats reflect every ethnic group and economic class; however, it has been the only party to consistently reach out to.. and look out for... "Women, and also the Low Income and Middle Income" working class; who without them, this country would be devastated. The erosion of the Middle Class (pushing them lower and lower into the lower rungs of the economic ladder) has largely contributed to the state we are in now.
-
Republicans are strongly anti-union and, if you recall, just the other day, every male Republican except Arlen Spector of Pennsylvania, voted no on the "Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act".
-
Republicans have fiscal policies that benefit their largest contributors - which in 2008 was ATT, (the corporation that allowed Bush/Cheney intelligence to spy on civilians)**
-
Unless the Obama administration disallows this, I will have to change telephone and Internet providers.
-
-
One more thing, I'm really tired of Republican women referring to Sarah Palin as being the first woman nominee for Vice President. Excuse me, Geraldine Ferraro (a Democrat) was the first VP nominee.
-
-

The Controversy surrounding Republican Chip Saltsman:
-
For Christmas 2008, Saltsman sent a music CD of songs intended to be political satire to members of the Republican National Committee. The CD of 41 songs included one entitled "David Ehrenstein's 'Barack the Magic Negro' " set to the tune of "Puff, the Magic Dragon". Its title was drawn from a Los Angeles Times column, written by Ehrenstein, who is partly of African-American descent,[13] that suggested President-elect Barack Obama appealed to those who feel guilty about the nation's history of mistreatment of African-Americans.[14] Saltsman said the song, penned by his longtime friend Paul Shanklin, a white conservative parodist songwriter, who performs it using his impersonation of Al Sharpton, "should be easily recognized as satire directed at the Times."[15]

Deborah Mathis fired back on BlackAmericaWeb.com .. December 29, 2008...
"What a pathetic bumpkin Chip Saltsman turns out to be.Saltsman is bound to have learned some things from managing Mike Huckabee’s once-quixotic presidential campaign, which actually had some momentum for awhile. But basic human politics escape him ...
Frankly, that’s the way I like it. I prefer bigots who are too country, too primitive, too proud, and too shallow to cloak their feelings – or even know how to – as opposed to those sophisticates who serve their racism cold and on a bed of pretense. What makes Saltsman’s transparency not only preferable, but vital is that he had hoped to be chairman of the Republican National Committee, which now understands clearly that black and brown support is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.
-
The last thing it needs is to be identified with racial divisiveness and insensitivity. As Mike Duncan, the current RNC chairman, noted, “The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party.”
-
Duncan expressed outrage “that anyone would think this is appropriate as it clearly does not move us in the right direction.”In short, Saltsman’s chairmanship ambitions are toast. For sure, the Tennessee Republican isn’t the only one who got a kick out of “Barack, the Magic Negro.”
-
It was, after all, Rush Limbaugh who introduced the country to it via his radio show. But the blustery, perennially offensive Limbaugh was not in line to set the agenda for a major political party. Now, neither is Saltsman.
-
Interestingly, another would-be RNC chairman is sounding more forgiving of Saltsman than is the current GOP leadership. Ken Blackwell, the former Ohio secretary of state and apologist for the state’s squirrely voting system, blames the media for “hypersensitivity” on race and would not condemn Saltsman’s action.Blackwell, you may recall, is a black man. Apparently, rather than take the party forward, he is more concerned with not offending the bigots in his party by pointing out their bigotry, so as to assure them that he is not the angry black man of legend than he is on taking the party forward. We’ve seen that type before too. The accommodationist, tap dancing his way into favor. The type who would probably be flattered had the magic Negro of note been “Ken,” not “Barack.”

The Republican Party (a party that racists and malcontents are attracted to) says that they haven't changed their fundamental core values.
Why have they really elected Michael Steele? Smoke screen?
1. Can a leopard change its spots?
2. If it acts like a duck, talks like a duck, then it's probably still a duck.
