The Buck Stops at the top (with you), Mayor Lansky!

Let's summarize (from previous posts and the mayor's stated record):

Just to let you know, the smear campaign continues against Mrs. Mitchell  (started around June of this year)We're surprised she hasn't lost her temper (and we wouldn't blame her if she did).

As we said before, if there was any real and substantial and highly incriminating evidence against Mrs. Mitchell, it would have come out.  The fact that she has supporters and people who like her no matter what they've done, is not an indictment against her.   She is genuinely liked by many people.

We remember Mrs. Mitchell telling us a funny story about when she retired from county years ago.  She said she had the same furniture she started with (often duct taping the holes in her furniture).

The exact opposite seems to be at the Maple Heights mayor's city hall.  Seems some offices got a really nice face lift (new furniture, etc); and what was so very important that the police have a bunch of new patrol cars (we've been told that there's always more than a few on the lot)?  We think some of the police officers should be walking a beat getting to know the residents.

Mayor Lansky is a Maple Heights career politician who has served as either a member of council or council president, or mayor since 1987 (with the exception of 4 years); yet Maple Heights has gone from a city of roughly 28,000 to around 23,100 during those years.

The poverty rate in Maple Heights:
[Percentage of residents living in poverty in 2009: 13.2%(8.7% for White Non-Hispanic residents, 15.7% for Black residents, 13.3% for Hispanic or Latino residents, 0.0% for American Indian residents, 0.0% for other race residents, 24.1% for two or more races residents)]

Mayor Lansky is the leader of Maple Heights, yet it appears he wants  you to think that Maple Heights woes rest on an African American woman who has served two non consecutive (2yr) terms, who it appears is the councilwoman who many people call when they need help because she does indeed help them. [Remember, there are 7 members of council and 1 council president.]

[If Mayor Lansky wants to reference Ciaravino's term (who Lansky sued after he lost an election to Ciaravino), he also needs to reference then council president .. Jackie Albers, who he embraces. Also, if the mayor wants to point to business activities in the audit ending in 2007, read page 13 for explanation.]  Mayor Lansky needs to thank progressive Democrats for a lot of  the monies Maple Heights received during his term ... money that was not there when Republicans (the mayor's former political party) ruled.

Southgate USA has been deteriorating, and has gone from receivership in 2009 [Jeffrey Lansky then mayor, his opponent held no public office at that time] to foreclosure in October this year, to a recent sheriff's sale (correct us if we're wrong). The other small shopping center ... Mapletown has lost a lot of businesses.

In a city of over 61+% African American (70% minority), there's never been an African American fire-fighter, and the police department's record for hiring African American / minority police officers (not auxiliary) is extremely dismal.

How many minorities (esp. African American) work on construction crews? The record is dismal.

Most of the people who work in Maple Heights (esp. full-time with high salaries and fantastic benefits) do not live in Maple Heights, and the majority of those Maple Heights city employees are Caucasian.

The mayor of Shaker Heights with a population of around 29,000 makes about $75,000 a year, while the mayor of Maple Heights (Mayor Lansky) of a population of about  23,100 (with the above poverty rate, job growth rate, unemployment rate) makes around $100,000 a year (including the last few years).

Were raises given without the consent of council members, and to whom did those raises go (if, in fact, raises were given)?

The 90 abandoned buildings he supposedly leveled ... What's happened to that land?  What contractors were used, and how much did Maple Heights taxpayers have to pay to have those buildings leveled?

What's happened to the people who lost their homes to foreclosure in Maple Heights?

How many minorities (that live in Maple Heights), did the mayor insist, that businesses that want to contract with the city .. hire?

Maple Heights has 3 new schools (even though there was/is a decline in population) that seem to have added to or kept Maple Heights residents with millions in liabilities; yet, even with improved graduation rates, students test below the state average ../. (while the superintendent makes more than Ohio Governor Kasich). What are the graduates of  Maple Heights schools doing now?

***The people near the railroad, who have complained of noise and damage to their homes for years, have a special fund thanks to former councilman Priebe.  As of October 31, 2011, the general fund (where salaries, bond interest payments, etc. are taken) is in the red.  Various other funds are also in the red.  We don't want the mayor's administration dipping into that railroad settlement fund to bail out the funds that are in the red.

We think the Maple Heights mayor should stop trying to deflect from him and his administration, and tell us what he intends to do (in great detail) to make Maple Heights a robust, vibrant, economically sound, and great environment for everyone (including addressing the economic problems of African Americans in his city).
